Everton would likely be willing to consider transfer offers for Beto if a transfer fee was “useful” from a PSR perspective, according to Joe Thomas.

The Portuguese forward has been linked with the Goodison Park exit door this summer, with reports suggesting Atalanta are ready to submit a £17million proposal for the striker [Tutto Atalanta, 5 August].

While Beto has previously insisted his focus remains on the Toffees, Liverpool Echo journalist Thomas believes the European club’s interest may present a “useful situation” for all parties involved in the deal.

Speaking on the Royal Blue YouTube channel (5 August, 53:00) he said: “I would be interested to see what would happen if somebody were to put a concrete offer in for Beto who is a player that has potential but is still raw.

“If you were to offer Everton a route out where everybody saves face and perhaps Everton bring in a transfer fee that is useful from a PSR perspective and may also help them create the freedom to look for another striker that either replaces Dominic Calvert-Lewin or plays foil for him, then that might be a useful situation for everyone.

“I think they’d probably lend an ear to people coming in for Calvert-Lewin and Beto depending on what the circumstances were.”

Will Beto exit Everton amid Atalanta transfer rumours?

While Sean Dyche isn’t blessed with loads of striking options at Goodison Park, the Toffees financial and ownership situation means almost every player is available at a certain price this summer.

If Beto could help the Blues avoid another potential PSR breach and help fund a move for a new centre-forward, Everton would be stupid to not consider an offer should it arrive from Atalanta before the transfer deadline.

As Thomas suggests, the striker has shown plenty of promise. However, he is nowhere near the finished article and therefore he will take plenty of time to develop into a player who can lead a Premier League attack week in and week out.

It will be interesting to see if Atalanta’s interest does transform into a genuine transfer offer in the coming weeks. If the Italian club do submit a proposal, Dyche and those above him at Goodison Park will have a big decision to make.
