“We’ll be ready” – Cyriel Dessers ignores transfer rumours, backs Rangers to usurp Celtic in the coming season

Super Eagles and Rangers striker, Cyriel Kolawole Dessers, has backed his club side to challenge Rangers for the league title next season, Soccernet.ng reports.

The 29-year-old nearly spearheaded the Gers to a domestic double, but Philippe Clement’s team ran out of steam when they needed it the most, leaving their rivals with two trophy triumphs.

After scoring a brace against Union Berlin in their pre-season clash yesterday, the Belgium-born Nigerian is confident his club side can usurp Celtic in the coming season.

“We have a big month in August, not only in the league but also in the cup and in Europe, so we know what to do. We have been there before. For some of the new guys, it’s obviously new but we’ll take them with us. We’ll support them. We’ll be ready,” the Super Eagles striker said in quotes revealed by Football Scotland.

Quizzed about what fuels his beliefs for the new season, the 22-goal forward said;

“Just when I look round the dressing room. There is a lot of quality and experience. Some guys have gone, but other guys have come in. If you look at Connor Barron and how he played here in the last few games. So he’s making good steps. We have guys who are progressing. When you see Mohamed Diomamde for example. He’s still a young player but he’s made big steps in the last six months. If I look at myself, last season was a rocky beginning, but now I’m coming in with the confidence of making 20-plus goals in a season, so I’m starting with a different feeling to last season. All of these things, hopefully they add up and make us a better team,” the former Cremonese man concluded.

Dessers missed Nigeria’s 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying matches in June due to an injury he sustained in the Scottish League Cup final against Celtic.
