Wenham backs Tottenham to complete 'Spectacular' signing after multi-million transfer update

John Wenham believes Tottenham could end up signing LOSC Lille striker Jonathan David.

The owner of the reputable Spurs podcast Lilywhite Rose claims the North London side will be tempted by a move due to the price.

As reported by The Guardian (25 June) Chelsea, Manchester United, West Ham and Spurs are all interested in David, who could be available for as little as £20million.

And Wenham – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – thinks it would be a worthwhile move.

“I’m surprised by the fee which is being reported,” Wenham said.

“He is an interesting player who can operate through the middle or out wide. Therefore, I think Tottenham will see this as a good market opportunity.

“It is a spectacular deal in terms of the price, especially considering David has a high potential sell-on value.

“As a result, this is a deal I could see the club getting done.”

It is no secret that Tottenham need a new number nine.

Whether or not David is the long-term answer to their striking troubles is not clear.

However, what is clear is that for £20million, it would be worth the club taking a gamble on the Canadian.

David has proven time and time again that he knows where the back of the net is in France. Therefore, the 24-year-old deserves an opportunity to prove himself in England.

Beating the likes of United and Chelsea to his signature could prove difficult.

However, if they do, it might end up being the bargain of the summer.
