Wenham hails rarely-seen Tottenham duo as 'Outstanding' pre-season claim emerges

John Wenham has hailed Tottenham goalkeepers Luca Gunter and Brandon Austin for their performances during pre-season.

The owner of the reputable Spurs podcast Lilywhite Rose has been impressed by what he has seen from both players, particularly during the 2-0 win over QPR (20 July).

Austin started the match at Loftus Road before being replaced by Gunter at half-time.

And Wenham – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – believes both goalkeepers played a big part in the pre-season victory.

“I think Austin and Gunter have been outstanding, especially against QPR,” Wenham said.

“Austin made a massive save during the first half of that match and I thought his overall performance was brilliant.

“As for Gunter, he was also outstanding. Tottenham soaked up a lot of pressure in the second half against QPR and Gunter played a really big part in that.

“Therefore, I am delighted for them both after what were some really good performances.”

Ange Postecoglou to make goalkeeping decision at Tottenham

Ange Postecoglou will no doubt be keeping a close eye on the progress of both Austin and Gunter.

Guglielmo Vicario will be the club’s number one next season. However, with Fraser Forster not getting any younger and currently nursing an injury, there could be an opening for the number two position at Spurs.

Austin would likely be ahead of Gunter in that regard, considering his age and the fact that he has recently signed a five-year deal in North London.

However, Gunter will no doubt still be keen to make an impression during the remainder of pre-season.
