Wenham urges Tottenham to demand 40% sell-on clause for player set to be sold ASAP

John Wenham has urged Tottenham to demand a 40 per cent sell-on clause as part of negotiations for Djed Spence.

The owner of the reputable Spurs podcast Lilywhite Rose believes the right-back could be sold back to the Premier League for a “huge fee” in the future.

As per Fabrizio Romano via X (7 June), talks are advancing between Spurs and Genoa over the sale of Spence.

And Wenham – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – wants the North London club to make sure they get a cut of any future sale.

“I wouldn’t be surprised if Spence returned to the Premier League in a couple of years for a huge fee,” Wenham said.

“Therefore, if he is going to be sold for less than £8.5million, a sell-on clause has to be agreed.

“I hope that’s what the negotiations are about, and I hope Tottenham push for 40 per cent because I think he will return to the Premier League.

“Selling Spence is an important part of the rebuild, and I therefore think he will be sold in the coming weeks.”

Spence looks unlikely to revive his career under Ange Postecoglou and as a result, a move away from the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium could be exactly what the player needs.

However, Spurs must ensure they agree on a good deal with Genoa.

Spence is still 23 years old and could therefore be sold at a profit by Genoa if he enjoys a positive spell in the Serie A.

As a result, if the Itallian club want to agree on a cut-price deal, then Tottenham must ensure it is on their terms.
