West Ham disbelief at Wan-Bissaka in 'awful' Brighton incident: 'Wow'

West Ham right-back Aaron Wan-Bissaka stunned with an “incredible piece of bravery” against Brighton, according to Paul Robinson.

The Hammers drew with the Seagulls 1-1 at the London Stadium thanks to a Mohammed Kudus equaliser to Mats Weiffer opener, meaning the East London club are now unbeaten in three as the club are currently sticking with Julen Lopetegui.

However, that well-earned point almost vanished after a chance for Tariq Lamptey was blocked by the Wan-Bissaka in an “awful” late collision.

Paul Robinson said on BBC Radio 5 Live, via the BBC Sport live-blog (4.59pm): “Wow. What a piece of defending from Aaron Wan-Bissaka. The collision looked awful. An incredible piece of bravery from Wan-Bissaka”.

The collision was caused by the follow-through after the last-ditch clearance from the former Man United defender.

West Ham are backing Julen Lopetegui, for now

Football Insider Opinion

After recent results have gone their way, the club has not yet sacked the Spaniard.

They haven’t lost since the build-up to the West Ham vs Wolves match, which had fans dubbing it the “Graham Potter derby”. A couple of weeks later, opposing manager Gary O’Neil was sacked instead.

However, Football Insider reveals that the former Real Madrid manager is still just one game going wrong away from losing his job.

While the team haven’t lost in their last few games, that claim might soon be tested as they sit 14th with 20 points.

West Ham
Graham Potter was in advanced talks to become manager earlier this month.

Lopetegui hasn’t had an easy time since returning to England. Despite around £120 million spent on summer signings, the squad has yet to fully gel.

Reports that the club is considering selling today’s goalscorer, Kudus, could hint that the hierarchy is waiting for the right time to sack the manager and free up funds for his replacement.

Still, the Spanish boss will hope their form has turned a corner as they prepare for a favourable away fixture against Southampton on Boxing Day.

In other news, West Ham are targeting a Premier League striker in January.
