West Ham are closing in on the signing of Kyle Walker-Peters from Southampton, sources have told Football Insider.
The two Premier League clubs are in advanced talks to agree on a fee for the full-back, as he prepares to leave St. Mary’s Stadium.
Even though the Irons are in pole position to sign the 27-year-old, sources at the club say other Premier League clubs are waiting in the wings if a deal falls through.
Those other teams are prepared to make a move for Walker-Peters, increasing the pressure on West Ham’s negotiations.
The Irons are in the market for a new right-back in this window after Ben Johnson departed the club following the end of his contract.
Walker-Peters would fill that gap, and, like Johnson, he’s versatile enough to play as a left-back if needed.
West Ham in advanced Kyle Walker-Peters talks
West Ham are keen to sign a full-back who is proven in the Premier League and can instantly fit into their starting XI.
With 115 appearances in the top flight throughout his career, Walker-Peters is a proven commodity in the division.
Last season he played a pivotal role in Southampton getting promoted from the Championship by playing 43 league games where he provided three goals and assists.
Should Wan-Bissaka leave Old Trafford this summer, the Premier League giants are expected to make a “huge” loss on him.
