'We've Spent Money' - Pundit shares what will make Rangers fans 'Happy as Larry'

Rangers spending on projects such as the museum is “great” but success on the pitch is what matters to the supporters, says Derek Ferguson.

The ex-Ibrox midfielder believes that cash the club can’t afford has been used on behind-the-scenes changes and developments such as Edmiston House when Philippe Clement needed focus to be on transfers to strengthen the squad.

The Belgian has implemented changes to the medical department [Rangers Review, 17 June] among other things but Ferguson feels he may have taken on more than he could handle at once with the squad now looking undercooked during a frustrating transfer window.

“I think he should just concentrate on the starting XI and the squad,” he exclusively told Ibrox News.

“He was quite outspoken about how he wasn’t happy with how things were being run behind the scenes in terms of the fitness of the squad and the medical side of it.

“That’s all good. But listen, just concentrate on getting the best players in that are going to hit that starting XI, that are going to challenge Celtic.

“I get all that, that he’s looking at everything and he’s looking at projects. We’ve spent money on the stadium. We’ve spent money on the museum. It’s a beautiful museum with all the history, it’s great.

“But I don’t think we can afford it. We just need to concentrate on what’s happening on the grass.

“That’s what it’s all about, and if it’s successful there everything else in the world for the Rangers supporters we’ll be happy as Larry.

“I think he’s maybe tried to address too many other things instead of just focusing on the side and the current squad.”

Rangers need to secure signings before transfer window shuts

Spending on the museum is a positive as long as the team is successful and feeling is positive around the club, but otherwise can look like window dressing.

Clement’s attempts to overhaul elements he was unhappy with behind the scenes also makes plenty of sense when he has encountered so many injury set backs.

But with the likes of Nico Raskin, Ridvan Yilmaz and Oscar Cortes all already picking up significant ones this term it doesn’t look to have changed anything for the better.

Clement is stuck trying to get players out who he has told can go in order to make signings, and in that context it can make investment elsewhere look like the wrong priority however well intended.
