'Where is the sense?' - King baffled by 'Strange' Everton transfer news

Bryan King doesn’t understand why Everton would want to sign Atletico Mineiro striker Alisson.

The ex-Goodison scout is confused as to why other clubs haven’t made a move for the Brazillian.

As reported by Goal (21 August), the Toffees are one of two sides interested in Alisson. The 18-year-old has a £50million release clause in his contract for clubs overseas.

And King – speaking exclusively to Goodison News – suspects there is more to this transfer story than meets the eye.

“Where is the sense in Everton signing this player?” King asked.

“He is not going to be an instant solution to any of their problems, that is for sure. I haven’t seen the boy, I don’t know the boy.

“However, I’ve seen young players come over from South America and do extremely well, but I’ve also seen young players come over from South America and you never hear of them again.

“If he’s so good, and he has a release clause of that amount, why haven’t any big Spanish clubs moved in for him? This sounds like a very strange rumour.

“It sounds like a club or agent trying to enhance this player’s profile. Everton need a lot more than him, that is for sure.”

Everton to sign Atletico Mineiro striker Alisson?

The Toffees are cash-strapped at Goodison Park at the moment.

Therefore, spending some of their valuable funds on an 18-year-old from Brazil who is unproven in English football doesn’t seem wise.

The club need additions, there is no getting away from that. However, with the situation they’re in, they need to sign players who they know are going to hit the ground running.

Alisson would no doubt need some time to adapt, time which Everton don’t have on their side considering the club’s start to the Premier League season.
