Aaron Ramsdale was one of the big movers this summer as he finally left Arsenal to become number one at Southampton.
Ramsdale found himself as the number two at Arsenal behind David Raya and eventually, the England stopper had to move on.
The move has, so far, been a tough one for Ramsdale. Despite doing ok on a personal level, Southampton have struggled in the main and he could well be staring at a third relegation.
Of course, Arsenal are looking like title contenders again and could very much win the league if they carry on as they are.
But according to Ramsdale, sitting on the periphery and picking up a trophy means little compared to actually playing.
Aaron Ramsdale says why he really left Arsenal
Speaking to the BBC, Ramsdale confirmed he’d moved to simply play football and that in reality, a trophy while not playing wouldn’t have mattered to him.
“If I was sitting on the bench, it [winning a trophy] wouldn’t have meant that much to me,” Ramsdale told BBC One’s Football Focus when asked about his move.
“I just wanted to play football. As a kid I wanted to play football to play, not to just sit on a bench.
“Getting out and playing was my aim so I’m lucky I found myself here at Southampton.”
Ramsdale faces another big season
It’s very admirable of Ramsdale to go out and get a move and ensure he is playing again.
However, with Southampton very likely to among the teams going back to the Championship, he faces a massive 12 months again.
If the Saints do go down, does he try and get another move again back to the Premier League? Or does he simply stick it out and excel at Championship level.

Time will tell, but the move to Southampton does come with risks as well as reward for Ramsdale overall.
Russell Martin is steadfast in sticking to how he wants to play. And in the end, that could be Southampton’s downfall this season.
