Jamie Murphy has fired Philippe Clement a brand-new sack warming ahead of Rangers’ showdown with St Mirren.
The Light Blues welcome Stephen Robinson’s side to Ibrox on Sunday (27 October) as they look to build on their impressive 4-0 thrashing of FCSB in the Europa League last time out.
While Clement has once again asked to be given time to turn things around at Ibrox, Go Radio pundit Murphy has told the Belgian he has to “win now” if he wants to keep his job in the long term.
Speaking on The Go Radio Football Show (25 October, 21:20) he said: “After listening to his interview there and he’s asking for time, that’s something you just don’t get at Rangers and Celtic.
“You have to win now. That’s not give us time, by the way, we’re not going to win anything this year but next year we’re going to be brilliant. That’s not good enough for Rangers fans.”
Will Rangers sack Philippe Clement amid Ibrox exit speculation?
Time is a commodity very rarely afforded to managers of either Old Firm club.
Michael Beale likely felt he deserved more time to turn things around after a busy summer at Ibrox, the same goes for Giovanni van Bronckhorst and many more managers who have stood in the Gers dugout.
But Rangers supporters demand success and they will want it immediately. Managers cannot get away with promising trophies further down the line when the noisy neighbours across Glasgow are securing title after title.
Clement will know this. While the Belgian keeps asking for more time and patience, he will know that things have to turn soon.
The Europa League win over FCSB is a step in the right direction, but it will matter very little if the Gers don’t claim all three points against St Mirren to at least keep the pace with Celtic and Aberdeen at the top of the table.
Hopefully, things will finally begin to click into gear after a slow start at Ibrox, starting on Sunday afternoon.
