Rangers would need to spend £50million to be on parity with Celtic and challenge for the title again, believes Graeme Souness.

The Ibrox icon believes that while there is a gap between the two Old Firm sides, it’s not insurmountable and money spent in the right way would help bridge it.

In his view, three or four really good signings could make all the difference to take the Ibrox outfit to the next level.

As quoted by the Daily Record who reported that Whisky veteran Billy Walker is open to investing in the club, Souness, a talkSPORT pundit, said: “Right now, there is a gap between Rangers and Celtic, but it’s not insurmountable. Three or four quality signings could make the difference, but Rangers don’t have the money right now. If they were to spend £50million, it’d be nip and tuck between the two of them.”

Rangers need the right structure in place before any external investments

Souness’ assertion that Gers could challenge Celtic with a £50million investment highlights the immediate financial disparity between the two clubs.

However, before they consider such expenditure, there’s a critical need for robust organisational restructuring.

The club’s recent financial reports and a backroom exodus indicate that there’s plenty of work that still needs to be done.

Implementing a structured plan that encompasses youth development, scouting, financial planning and a clear football philosophy is essential.

Without this, any significant spending might merely patch over deeper issues without addressing them.

Rangers should prioritise building a solid organizational foundation, ensuring that investments in players are wisely made and sustainable, potentially setting the stage for long-term competition.
