John Wenham believes Tottenham will regret releasing Kieran Morgan.
The owner of the reputable Spurs podcast Lilywhite Rose claims it was a “mistake” to let go of the youngster.
Tottenham confirmed Morgan had been released via the club’s official website on Wednesday 5 June. The 18-year-old has since signed for QPR and gone on to make three Championship appearances.
And Wenham – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – feels Morgan is much more talented than some of Spurs’ other Under-21 prospects.
“Morgan was released by Tottenham last summer,” Wenham said.
“He recently scored a massive goal for QPR in the Championship, and he’s still only 18 years old.
“It seemed to be a mistake at the time to lose somebody able to play centre-back and in defensive midfield. He is also significantly better than a lot of the current Under-21 options at Spurs, and he is proving himself in the Championship now.
“Therefore, I do think he is a player that Tottenham will regret releasing. He’s a boyhood Spurs fan, been at the club since a young age, and I do think that was a disappointing decision.”
Tottenham to regret releasing Kieran Morgan?
Morgan is yet to start in the Championship this season. However, he has featured in QPR’s three most recent matches in the division, scoring a goal along the way.
This suggests he is slowly establishing himself in the first team, despite only being 18 years old. As a result, it does look as though Spurs might have made a mistake in letting him leave.
The North London club still have some very talented youngsters in their ranks. However, Postecoglou might have benefited from having another midfielder he could develop, especially with the issues Spurs have had in that area of the pitch this season.
While Morgan might not have gone straight into the Tottenham first-team as he is now doing at QPR, it does appear as though he has plenty of potential, which might have been exciting to capitalise on in North London.
