Everton are unlikely to afford the £25million-£30million valuation Manchester United have set for Scott McTominay, according to the Telegraph.
The news outlet reported on 1 August that the Toffees admire the Scotland international and are keen on signing him.
However, following the collapse of the Friedkin Group takeover, there is financial uncertainty, making a move for the 27-year-old too expensive.
Scott McTominay is unlikely to perform the Amadou Onana role at Everton
McTominay will not be able to replace Amadou Onana and that is what the Toffees will be looking for this summer.
Furthermore, the Scotsman’s playing style and strengths do not align with the requirements of the role at Goodison Park.
The 27-year-old is more of a box-to-box midfielder who excels in breaking up play and contributing to the attack, whereas Onana is a defensive midfielder who provides a shield for the defence and helps in building up play from the back.
Everton should focus on finding a player who can fulfil the specific needs of the defensive midfield position, rather than pursuing McTominay, who may not be the best fit for their tactical setup.
He also lacks the positional awareness needed to thrive in that role and Sean Dyche would demand a lot more from him.
Hopefully, the club have other targets in mind which they can now go on to pursue before the window shuts.
In other Everton news, Alan Myers has issued an update as the Toffees want to sign a player Pep Guardiola called ‘Exceptional’.
