£3.3m agreement reached as Everton player set to jet out today to seal exit - report

Everton and Marseille have reached a £3.3million agreement to complete the loan move for Neal Maupay with an obligation to buy, according to L’Equipe.

The French media outlet reported on 29 August that the 28-year-old striker will jet out on Thursday, 29 August, to Provence.

The deal includes an obligation to buy so the Toffees are guaranteed money from the departure of the French striker.

Signing Maupay seemed to be a mistake right from the get go by the Toffees as his performances at Brighton did not justify it.

He did well at Brentford before moving to the south coast so one can understand why the Seagulls wanted to sign him.

However, after struggling at the Amex for three years, it made no sense whatsoever for Everton to sign him.

The club have made a series of questionable transfer decisions and this one was right up there, spending £15million for his services in 2022, per the BBC.

They will have made a significant loss from his exit but at least he’ll be off the payroll and that’s just as important for the club.

It’s also a lesson that they should not make such ridiculous deals in the future and bring in quality through the door.
