Cyriel Dessers is now wanted by clubs in four different countries and Rangers want to make their money back to sell him, according to Chris Jack.

The Rangers Review journalist reported via the outlet’s website on 3 July that the Nigerian striker has an asking price of the £4.5million it cost to bring him in from Cremonese last summer, with French and Spanish clubs having now “registered their interest” in a deal, on top of previously-reported interest from Greek side PAOK [Daily Mail, 25 June].

In addition the 29-year-old’s situation is being “closely monitored” in Saudi Arabia as the race hots up over an Ibrox exit.

Dessers scored 22 goals across his debut season in Glasgow but also endured criticism for his performances along the way.

Rangers to sell Cyriel Dessers and Sam Lammers after one season

The effectiveness of Michael Beale’s transfer overhaul a year ago is evident from the fact that he is no longer at Ibrox and Philippe Clement is now attempting the same thing 12 months on.

The Belgian may have got more out of a number of his predecessor’s signings, with Dessers arguably chief among them after he was left as the lone central striker for much of the season due to injury.

His goal return surely made his signing a qualified success in the end, especially compared to the disastrous move to bring in Sam Lammers during the same window.

The latter rehabilitated himself on loan in the Eredivisie but is also expected to be sold this summer [Rangers Review, 29 May], with Hamza Igamane on the way in as a new striker [TEAMtalk, 2 July].

There would be a decent argument to keep Dessers at Ibrox as well as a second or third choice option, but since there is clearly a growing market for his services it appears Clement is ready to cash in and sign his own men.

Danilo could be the only Rangers striker signed last summer left standing next term.

The Gers like Scottish Premiership stars Lawrence Shankland and Bojan Miovski at Hearts and Aberdeen respectively but there are difficulties from their perspective in both deals [Scottish Daily Mail, 1 June].

But if Dessers is sold it would currently leave just Danilo, returning from long-term injury, and the as-yet unproven Igamane as the strike force so a major signing would surely be expected.

In other Rangers news, the Light Blues are considering an exit for another goalkeeper as multiple clubs are now interested in a deal.
