'A lot to like' - Pundit delighted after Rangers secure another signing with eye on huge profit

Derek Ferguson believes there is “a lot to like” about the deal that saw Rangers sign Clinton Nsiala away from AC Milan when they wanted to keep him.

Former Gers defender Marco Negri told the Daily Record on 12 June that the Serie A giants had been left “very upset” to lose the 20-year-old defender after he signed a pre-contract to join the Light Blues.

The Italian suggested the club are hoping Nsiala will develop along the same lines as Calvin Bassey in arriving cheaply and developing before being sold on to “a bigger club with a lot of money” for a hefty profit, with the Record reporting separately on 14 June that the Gers do have hopes of a “huge profit” down the line.

The young Frenchman has not yet played a senior game despite being in various first-team squads, and Ferguson doesn’t expect him to start straight away but is a fan of the “hunger” he has shown by choosing to make the move to Scotland and follow Jefte and Oscar Cortes as the third signing of the summer.

Speaking exclusively to Ibrox News he said: “He’s a young lad but obviously if you’re at a club of the stature of Milan there’s a player in there.

“I kind of like that I think he was offered a contract to stay at Milan, but I think the boy wants to get out and prove himself. I like that. He seems to have a bit of hunger about him.

“He must be a good player. He’s what? Six foot three? He seems to be pretty decent on the ball.

“He’s coming into a league where it will take him a bit of time if he is going to be a starter, which I’m not too sure at the age 20 that he is.

“I would think it’ll take him a little bit of time to the aggressive physicality and the speed of the Scottish game.

“I just like that he wants to go and challenge himself and come into our league, so there’s a lot to like about the young fella coming to us.”

New Rangers defender backs himself with Ibrox switch

Rangers Clinton Nsiala
Rangers signed Clinton Nsiala before he had made a senior appearance for AC Milan.

If Nsiala can end up moving on for even half of the £19.6million it cost Ajax to sign Bassey two years ago [Sky Sports] his arrival at Ibrox will surely be a success.

But while there is clearly an eye on the long-term with this deal Philippe Clement could certainly do with new defenders who can contribute straight away after his first season saw too much inconsistent play at the back.

It would therefore be no surprise to see a more senior option brought in as well, unless Nsiala proves to be a revelation in the preseason training which began this week.

In other Rangers news, an Ibrox star has reportedly already agreed terms to leave this summer.
