Acceptance in Rangers boardroom over key Ibrox decision emerges - report

Rangers board members have accepted the idea of postponing further developments of Ibrox until further notice, according to the Scottish Daily Mail.

The newspaper reported [26 October, pg 103] that there is a growing sense among the hierarchy that it would be better to use the funds elsewhere.

It means the proposed redevelopment plans of the Broomloan and Sandy Jardine stands have been put on the back burner for now, and the 51,500 stadium capacity won’t see an increase for now.

Copland Road delay a lesson for Rangers

In the summer, work was delayed on the Copland Road end after shipping issues, and the Light Blues started the 2024/25 season playing at Hampden Park.

While the Bears have some good memories at the stadium, Ibrox is still home and playing away from it unarguably feels different.

Therefore, the board are correct in their assessment of pushing the plans for further redevelopment down the line, with matters in the boardroom and on the pitch more important.

The Scottish Daily Mail, 26 October, pg 103.

As things stand, Philippe Clement and his team aren’t in the best spirits, and there is growing pressure on the Belgian manager due to some poor results in the Scottish Premiership.

Rangers have lacked a cutting-edge throughout the campaign, and the squad arguably needs more in the final third which could be a possible priority in January.

Therefore, if the club need to divert funds to improve the team, then it would make plenty of sense to push forward and help Clement in other areas.
