Kris Boyd shares new Hamza Igamane verdict after what he saw at Rangers

Kris Boyd doesn’t believe Hamza Igamane is ready to be the first-choice number nine at Rangers due to his age.

The Morocco international replaced Cyriel Dessers in the 4-0 win against FCSB and made a claim to get more minutes after getting on the scoresheet on 24 October in the Europa League.

However, while Boyd was happy with Igamane for taking his chance, the 41-year-old feels it’s still too early to count on the youngster.

Writing for the Scottish Sun on 25 October, Boyd said: “Hamza Igamane took his goal well but I still feel it’s too early for him to be Rangers’ starting striker.”

Rangers have relied on Dessers to lead the line since bringing him to Ibrox in the summer of 2023.

However, the Nigerian hasn’t been able to find the back of the net consistently in recent weeks, and he was frustrating despite the win over FCSB, which is often seen from the striker.

The Light Blues also have Danilo in their ranks, but the Brazilian hasn’t been able to stay fit for a considerable amount of time at Ibrox.

For now, Igamane is the only number nine who is challenging Dessers for his spot, and the Moroccan has impressed in the few minutes Philippe Clement has afforded him this season.

However, it seems like the Belgian manager doesn’t want to heap more pressure than is needed on the 21-year-old.

While the Ibrox faithful might want to see Igamane start in the tie against St Mirren on 27 October, it remains to be seen whether the gaffer has the same idea.
