Alexis Mac Allister says what Liverpool players are doing behind-scenes with Mohamed Salah's future in doubt
Big months lie ahead for Liverpool... ????
There is a lot to be happy about right now if you are a Liverpool fan watching the Reds set the pace in the Premier League.
Arne Slot’s first season on Merseyside is showing promising signings of turning out to be a huge success after a bright start.
The Reds sit top of the Premier League table with a seven-point cushion and also lead the way in the Champions League.
However, there are some concerns growing around Liverpool ahead of the summer with three big players set to see their contracts expire.
As the contract sagas continue to unwind at Liverpool, midfielder Alexis Mac Allister has provided insight on what’s going on behind the scenes.
Alexis Mac Allister says Liverpool players talk about contracts
There is the possibility that three huge players at Liverpool could walk away from the club at the end of the season.
TBR Football understands Mohamed Salah wants a three-year deal at Liverpool if he is going to ink a new contract.
And speaking on The Rest Is Football podcast, Mac Allister has shared what the players are doing behind the scenes amid the ongoing contract sagas.
“Yeah, of course, there is a lot of jokes, let’s say. But at the end, it’s a personal thing. And we are going to respect the club and them in whatever decision they make,” he said.
“Of course, we want them to stay with us. But as I say, it’s a personal decision and I would never get there.”
It is not just Salah who the Reds want to keep around with Liverpool confident of securing Virgil van Dijk’s future.
But there may well remain some questions over the future of Trent Alexander-Arnold who has interest from Real Madrid.
Liverpool need to seal Mohamed Salah down to new deal
Wednesday night’s display against Newcastle showed exactly why Salah needs to be signed to a new contract.
Robbie Fowler urged Liverpool to extend Salah’s stay after watching him in action up on Tyneside in the thrilling 3-3 draw.
But it is not just the potential loss of a great player that Salah’s exit would mark with a real leading figure potentially being lost at Anfield.
Phil Thompson praised Salah recently and suggested that his talents will not be truly appreciated until he does move on from the Premier League.
It is clear, though, the players at Liverpool will be hoping that’s still some years off.
