'All Of A Sudden' - Stefan Borson drops Chelsea ownership claim after new twist

Chelsea’s owners could be more relaxed about the takeover situation at Stamford Bridge following their side’s recent strong run of results.

That is the view of finance expert Stefan Borson, who exclusively told Football Insider he still believes both parties will be trying to find a resolution to their ownership issues despite their early-season success.

Bloomberg reported on 6 September Chelsea chairman Todd Boehly wants to buy out Behdad Eghbali’s Clearlake Capital after relations between the pair have soured in recent months.

Clearlake secured a 61.5 per cent stake in the London giants following the £4.25billion takeover in May 2022, while Boehly and fellow billionaires Mark Walter and Hansjorg Wyss each hold 12.8 per cent shareholdings.

Despite the recent boardroom tensions, Boehly and Eghbali have been pictured together at the latest Chelsea games following a good run of form.

Enzo Maresca’s side currently sit fourth in the Premier League table despite dropping points at home in their 1-1 draw against Nottingham Forest on Sunday.

Chelsea results could be papering over boardroom cracks

But Borson suggested the recent results could be papering over some of the cracks in the boardroom at Stamford Bridge.

He told Football Insider: “It would seem to me very surprising if all of a sudden they were completely satisfied with the situation after three weeks ago both parties leaked it to the press that they weren’t happy with the situation at all.

“That would seem to me to be pretty unlikely and quite odd if that was how it panned out.

“I would assume until we hear differently that both parties are still trying to find a resolution to their shareholder dispute and the future ownership of the club.

“But the other thing about it is, when you are winning on the pitch, it papers over quite a lot of cracks.

“All of a sudden, Chelsea have been winning on the pitch lately.

“They might be more relaxed generally about things because of that.”
