Ally McCoist has claimed that breaking news will emerge “later today” at Rangers amid behind-the-scenes changes at Ibrox.
While Philippe Clement is under immense pressure to turn things around, McCoist believes the changes will be made above him in the boardroom after recent news concerning the club’s CEO and chairman.
According to The Rangers Review [24 November], the Gers are set to name former Manchester United chief Patrick Stewart as the new CEO while Malcolm Offord will become the club chairman.
Speaking live via talkSPORT on Monday (25 November, 7:50am), McCoist said: “It won’t happen [sacking Clement] because the club aren’t in a financial situation to do so. They haven’t got the money to pay people off.
“The uncertainty above him [Philippe Clement] hasn’t helped. Yes, the results haven’t been good enough, I get that totally.
“But I think at this moment in time, I think there’s going to be news breaking later today regarding changes in the board and changes in personnel above him, which is long overdue. This will hopefully add a bit of stability.”
Rangers to make behind-the-scenes changes today?
While changes at the very top will not please all fans right now, with most of the pressure currently residing on Clement’s shoulders, it will be hugely exciting if news emerges on Monday 25 November.
The Light Blues are currently 11 points adrift of the top of the Scottish Premiership table after drawing 1-1 with Dundee United on Saturday 23 November, opening up the gap on Old Firm rivals Celtic.
Of course, much of the uncertainty at Ibrox has actually come due to the lack of leadership inside the Gers’ boardroom, and those concerns could be addressed on Monday if McCoist is to be believed.
Changes in the boardroom are unlikely to immediately steady the rocking ship at Ibrox but it is something that the supporters have been calling out for ever since John Bennett’s resignation.
Fans will next be calling for a decision to be made on Clement, and once things have stabilised further up the chain of command, this could finally happen.
In other Rangers news, the Gers must act quickly after a player’s recent admission over his Ibrox future.
