Ally McCoist was unable to excuse Rangers’ performance after losing 1-0 to Kilmarnock on Sunday (20 October).

During a lacklustre display at Rugby Park, Philippe Clement’s men were stung by a Marley Watkins winner just three minutes from full-time, seeing all three points slip away.

Following an enthralling 2-2 draw between Celtic and high-flyers Aberdeen on Saturday 19 October, the Gers missed a golden opportunity to close the gap on the league leaders.

Speaking live via talkSPORT on Monday (21 October, 6:43am), McCoist said: “There’s no getting away from it. The performance was very, very, very poor.

“I was watching the game closely, after a good game at Celtic Park as Aberdeen came back from 2-0 down, but there were massive problems for Rangers. They [Kilmarnock] looked like they knew exactly what they were doing, knew their jobs, and particularly at home, they are a proposition.

“Saying that, I thought Rangers were really poor. Nothing in forward areas, and defensively, they were incapable of keeping a clean sheet.”

Rangers concerns mooted after disappointing Kilmarnock defeat

Clement cannot find a single excuse to hide behind to justify the 1-0 loss to the Killie, having missed out on a chance to keep up the race on the Hoops and the Dons.

The Scottish Premiership title, albeit just eight games into the new campaign, looks to be out of reach for the Light Blues unless a huge twist emerges further into the season.

With just two defeats and a draw, the Gers are just one point ahead of fourth-placed Dundee United and just one point further away from the relegation play-off spots than they are the top of the table.

A European clash against Romanian side FCSB now looks to be a crucial clash for the Light Blues, especially ahead of a big match against Aberdeen before October ends.

Things must change at Ibrox, and rather quickly, and many fans are growing frustrated with Clement’s tenure and the stagnating nature of the football on the pitch.
