Keith Jackson moots 'Serious danger' at Rangers after what he saw v Kilmarnock

Rangers are in “serious danger” of ruling themselves out of contention for the Scottish Premiership title, Keith Jackson has said.

Philippe Clement’s side had the chance to close the gap on the top two sides at Rugby Park but failed to clear that hurdle with a frustrating 1-0 loss to Kilmarnock on Sunday 20 October.

Rather than moving just three points behind Celtic and Aberdeen, the Gers are now six points adrift and only one point above fourth-placed Dundee United instead, throwing more pressure on the manager.

Writing via the Daily Record on Monday (21 October), Jackson said: “The Belgian has become the latest in a line of close but no cigar merchants to have allowed standards to be degraded to such an extent that his side is now in serious danger of being considered a bit of an irrelevance where this season’s league title is concerned.

“Rangers? They’re now just a single point better off than fourth-placed Dundee United and it seems more likely they’ll be focusing on fending off this threat from Tannadice rather than harbouring any real hopes of getting involved in the argument brewing between the top two.”

Clement will have been under no illusion about just how much pressure he is currently facing at Ibrox, especially from the expectant fans waiting for things to finally take a positive twist.

However, the Scottish Premiership title looks to be quickly slipping out of the Gers’ grasp after missing out on all three points against Killie on Sunday 20 October.

The Gers now risk a complete fallout at Ibrox following the loss at Rugby Park and have multiple key fixtures on the horizon, including a Europa League tie against FCSB on Thursday 24 October.

They also face high-flying Aberdeen before October ends, a match which could open up the Scottish Premiership title race, also likely ending any hope of the Gers staying in the conversation.

This would be disastrous for Clement’s time in charge at Ibrox, who is already under immense pressure to get things back on track for the Light Blues.
