Andy Gray couldn’t decide if a lack of noise is a good thing as he and Richard Keys debated Dan Friedkin’s impending takeover at Everton.
Speaking on beIN Sports (19 October), the two pundits discussed talks “going quiet” in the weeks since Friedkin struck a deal to buy Farhad Moshiri’s 94.1 per cent majority stake at Goodison Park.
Freidkin’s takeover is expected to be ratified by the Premier League and other necessary higher-ups in the coming weeks [Alan Myers, 17 October], but Keys and Gray weren’t so sure.
Keys said: “Talk of the takeover has gone quiet.”
Gray replied: “Yeah, I know. But I don’t know if that’s a good thing?”
Dan Friedkin takeover developing in the background at Everton
Despite Keys and Gray’s concerns, it does seem as if Friedkin’s takeover at Goodison Park will be passed through with flying colours, finally bringing an end to the Toffees’ long-running ownership debacle.
Unlike Moshiri’s very public relations with 777 Partners over nine stagnant months last season, Friedkin’s dealings on Merseyside aren’t expected to make as many headlines.
Furthermore, Friedkin’s sudden re-emergence onto the potential ownership scene last month – having pulled out of a previous share purchase agreement in July – came as something of a surprise.
That’s a stark contrast to the discourse surrounding previous front-runner John Textor, who even went as far as discussing recruitment and tactics for Sean Dyche’s side.
It remains to be seen if and when Friedkin will be officially taking the reins at Goodison Park, but Gray in particular will be happy to see his former club enter their new era of ownership after so many years.
In other Everton news, the Toffees have been told to hire one highly-rated Premier League manager if Sean Dyche is sacked.
