Gary Lineker and Shay Given agreed with VAR after an Ipswich Town penalty was chalked off against Everton.

The Toffees secured a 2-0 win at Portman Road on Saturday 19 October thanks to goals from Iliman Ndiaye and Michael Keane.

Things could have been different against the Tractor Boys after Michael Oliver awarded a penalty for a potential foul by Dwight McNeil on Jack Clarke.

After a review, the decision was turned over which Lineker discussed on Match of the Day on 19 October, as he asked: “Penalty? What did you think?”

Given replied sharply saying: “I think Michael Oliver made the right decision.”

Lineker was in agreement with the ex-Newcastle goalkeeper, adding: “In the end.”

It was a positive performance in the Toffees who really looked like an experienced Premier League side up against Kieran McKenna’s men.

A professional performance on the day showed the difference between a newly promoted side and stalwarts of the division.

It could be said that the home side had more chances and potentially the better of them but it was Nidaye and a superb Keane finish that were the difference.

At 1-1, Clarke went down and it looked like a penalty from a distance but on second review, it does appear that McNeil just stood his ground.

This was ironically similar to a challenge on Dominic Calvert-Lewin against Newcastle which wasn’t given, a decision that left the Goodison faithful raging but is safe to say they were in full agreement with the referee this time around.

On another day the decision potentially goes against Sean Dyche’s side and they suffer from it but their professionalism shined through and they earned a superb three points on the road.

In other Everton news, Sean Dyche has made a Dan Friedkin admission after the latest takeover developments.
