Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou is a big admirer of Brighton and Hove Albion midfielder Carlos Baleba, according to Alex Crook.
The journalist reported for talkSPORT [29 October] that the Seagulls are under no obligation to sell the youngster after turning record profits in English football last year.
Tottenham are said to be interested in the 20-year-old, who signed for Brighton from Lille in 2023, as are Arsenal and Liverpool.
Carlos Baleba could be perfect for Tottenham
The North Londoners signed Yves Bissouma from Brighton in 2022; unfortunately, the Mali international has been inconsistent during his time at the club.
Postecoglou got the best out of the 28-year-old at the start of the previous campaign, but the midfielder has been unable to maintain his standards in the team.
Rodrigo Bentancur and Pape Matar Sarr are also options for the Australian in the middle of the park, and while both of them have been essential members of the squad, they aren’t natural defensive midfielders.
Tottenham need someone capable of providing cover to the defensive line, considering the defensive frailties in the team, and the game against Manchester City on Wednesday (30 October) will once again be a test for the Lilywhites.
Baleba could be one to provide that, with dribbling and ball interceptions being some of his strengths.
It’s unlikely that Brighton will part ways with one of their best players in January, so it’s still too early for Tottenham to think about him, but the 20-year-old should be someone the club have on their radar to strengthen the team in the coming years.
Tony Bloom isn’t someone who can be forced into doing something he doesn’t want, and the price tag he will put on Baleba for potential suitors remains to be seen.
In other Tottenham news, Postecoglou has delivered an update on Wilson Odobert’s injury ahead of the City fixture.
