'Huge discount' - Lilywhite Rose drops permanent Timo Werner transfer claim at Tottenham

John Wenham doesn’t expect Timo Werner to leave Tottenham in January amid recent reports from Germany.

The owner of the reputable Spurs podcast Lilywhite Rose can’t see another club matching the loan terms Spurs have agreed with RB Leipzig until the end of the season.

As reported by Kicker (24 October), Tottenham wouldn’t put any obstacles in the way of Werner leaving the club in January.

However, Wenham – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – struggles to see another club covering the German’s entire salary

“I think Werner is highly unlikely to leave in January,” Wenham said.

“It would require another club to cover his full salary. Unless another club is willing to do that, I’m not sure why RB Leipzig would end their agreement with us.

“Tottenham reportedly have a huge discount on the buy clause as well, because we took him on loan and are covering his full salary for another season.

“Therefore, I don’t see that happening. It is all well and good fans getting excited, but it would require another club matching what we’ve agreed, which is unlikely.”

Timo Werner to remain at Tottenham beyond January?

Werner is not enjoying the best time in North London.

Considering Tottenham are covering Werner’s full salary, which is bound to be a big cost to the club, and he isn’t making much of an impact, fans would no doubt be keen to see him moved on.

However, Wenham is correct to assume that RB Leipzig might struggle to find another club willing to agree the deal that Spurs have agreed.

Therefore, it looks as though Ange Postecoglou might be stuck with Werner until the end of the season.

However, even with the discount in place, it would surely take quite the upturn in form for Spurs to consider signing Werner permanently.
