Ange Postecoglou's impact on show with Tottenham the best in Europe in one area

It has been a mixed bag of results for Tottenham at the start of Ange Postecoglou’s second season as manager.

Spurs currently sit 10th in the Premier League table after picking up one win, one draw and one loss in their opening three league fixtures.

They head into the international break on the back of a 2-1 defeat to Newcastle United, which extended Tottenham‘s terrible record at St James’ Park.

But Tottenham’s results don’t accurately reflect their performances, with Ange Postecoglou‘s side dominating the ball against Leicester City, Everton and Newcastle.

It was astonishing that Spurs dropped points on the opening weekend against the Foxes after a dominant first half packed with chances. Tottenham were much more clinical in their 4-0 win over Everton but they were left ruing missed chances once again against Newcastle.

Tottenham are the best in Europe in one area

After putting up with Antonio Conte and Jose Mourinho’s pragmatic approach to football, Postecoglou was welcomed with open arms by Spurs fans.

His energetic and daring style of play got fans off their seats and while there were some hiccups in his first season, there were plenty of signs of promise.

According to WhoScored, Tottenham have thrived in one specific area at the start of the new season.

They claim that “Tottenham are averaging the highest possession percentage in Europe’s top five leagues so far this season (69.2%).

They also boast the third-most passes in the Premier League with only Southampton and Manchester City completing more than their 1,780.

Tottenham buying into Ange Postecoglou’s methods

Spurs may not have the results to show for it so far, but they are improving game-by-game under Postecoglou.

The hierarchy at Tottenham backed him this summer with heavy investment, including a club-record £65m deal for Dominic Solanke, and the pressure is on for Postecoglou to get Spurs into the top four.

But the underlying stats suggest that the results will come for Tottenham if they continue playing as they are.

A huge test awaits them after the international break with a North London derby against Arsenal.
