Report: ‘World-class’ free-agent Tottenham have been urged to sign now has surprise proposal from Brazil
This is quite a shock ????
Memphis Depay has been a free-agent for the entire summer transfer window, with Tottenham one of the clubs urged to move for the forward.
Dutch coach Dick Advocaat claimed Tottenham should look into signing Depay, with the attacker leaving Atletico Madrid at the end of last season and since failing to join a new club despite his impressive record and reputation.
Hailed by former Olympique Lyonnais manager Bruno Genesio as ‘world-class’ via Goal, Depay back in the Premier League playing for a club as ambitious and as entertaining as Tottenham would be quite the move for the Netherlands international.
Yet a surprise club has now made a contract offer for Depay this week.
Depay subject to contract offer from Brazilian giants Corinthians
According to Itatiaia, Corinthians have made an offer to sign Depay, with the Brazilian giants keen to make a marquee signing before the Serie A registration window closes on December 20th.
With fans already seeing one surprise player move to Brazil this summer in Newcastle United defender Jamal Lewis, the prospect of Depay making the move to the home of football might not be as far-fetched as first thought.
Indeed, Depay heading to Brazil is a romantic idea that many football fans would love to see unfold, with the former Manchester United and FC Barcelona star suited to the style of football many have to love from the South American nation.
Yet for Tottenham, missing out on Depay to a club like Corinthians would feel like a blow, and the north London side could now consider a move for the 30-year-old attacker.
Tottenham need to make a last-minute attempt for Depay
Depay is at the peak of his powers and is coming off a successful if unremarkable spell in La Liga with two of the division’s biggest clubs in Atletico and Barcelona, with the forward also impressing at Euro 2024.
And for Tottenham, a last-minute attempt to sign Depay could be a wise idea from the north London side given their need for another top-class attacker in the squad.
The Dutchman’s wages won’t be a problem, and for a season or two, Depay could be an excellent signing fro Tottenham, who could be ready for a return to the Premier League at long last.
