Rangers winger Scott Wright has been slammed by Four Lads Had A Dream host Stevie Clifford for his “anonymous” first-half display against Dynamo Kyiv.

Philippe Clement’s side claimed a 1-1 draw in the first leg of their Champions League qualifier on Tuesday (6 August) with Cyriel Dessers’ stoppage time equaliser keeping the Gers alive in the tie.

While the Light Blues’ display showed signs of improvement from their showing at Tynecastle, Clifford was quick to tear into Wright in particular for his ineffective showing ahead of Ridvan Yilmaz.

Writing on X on Tuesday (6 August), Clifford said: “So bad on the ball individually Souttar, Butland constantly shelling it, finally, a Yilmaz mistake costs us on a left-hand side where Wright is anonymous

“Shot ourselves in the foot in a situation where there is little danger and we have the ball.”

Will Scott Wright exit Rangers amid Ibrox transfer speculation?

Wright has often unfairly been the subject of criticism during his time at Rangers, but supporters would have been well within their rights to not have not even noticed the winger was playing in Tuesday night’s clash.

Having had a positive pre-season, there was some hope that this was the campaign where the Scotsman finally would come good, but those hopes have been dashed after only the second game of the term.

Several Championship clubs have reportedly been considering moves for the exit-linked Rangers star this summer [David Edgar, 24 July] and it does genuinely feel as though a move away from Ibrox ahead of the deadline may be the best thing for all parties.

Clement and Nils Koppen could use any transfer fee earned to bolster their wide options, while Wright could take a step out of the Glasgow spotlight to try and get his career back on track after a difficult few years.

The Rangers boss’ decision to hook him at halftime showed a lot about what he thought of the winger’s display and it will be interesting to see where that leaves him in the Belgian’s pecking order.

In other Rangers news, James Tavernier has been told that the “time is right” for him to leave Glasgow amid links with the Ibrox exit door
