'Anything can happen' - Agent hints at potential Jose Mourinho interest in Rangers outcast

Jose Mourinho is a fan of Rangers outcast Ianis Hagi but it is not yet clear if he will make a move for him at Fenerbahce, his agent Victor Becali has said.

An exclusive from Turkish publication Fanatik (10 June) reported that the attacking midfielder, who has returned to Ibrox after a loan spell at LaLiga side Alaves, is a player admired by new Fener boss Mourinho.

Becali stated that any Fener transfers were dependent on the outcome of presidential elections at the Super Lig club, which took place on 9 June, but he refused to rule out the possibility of a move for the 25-year-old Romania international.

“Currently we do not know anything concrete regarding the transfer of Ianis Hagi to Fenerbahce. You know very well what our relationship is with Jose Mourinho. At the moment there is nothing. But that does not mean that Ianis Hagi could not reach Fenerbahce,” Fanatik quotes Becali as saying.

“Mourinho has always liked Ianis Hagi. Always saw him as a high quality player. There are elections now at Fenerbahce. After things calm down, Mourinho also gets down to business and makes the transfer list.

“We can’t confirm now that Ianis will end up at Fenerbahce, but anything can happen in the near future.”

Time is right for Ianis Hagi to leave Rangers

Under various Rangers managers, Hagi’s game-time at Ibrox has decreased season-on-season since joining the club permanently in 2020, including zero Scottish Premiership appearances in 2023-24.

Solitary cameos in a Champions League qualifier and Scottish League Cup tie respectively were as good as it got for Hagi this season, before being sent on loan to LaLiga side Alaves by Michael Beale for the remainder of the campaign [Rangers Review].

Ianis Hagi made 26 appearances on loan at Alaves from Rangers last season.

Slated to return to Ibrox, where he played a key part in their 2021 Premiership title win with seven goals in 33 appearances, it’s unclear as to whether current Gers boss Clement will see Hagi as part of the club’s setup for the upcoming season [Fanatik].

The Belgian is leading a massive squad overhaul in sky blue this summer, with three of Hagi’s fellow 2021 title-winners (Borna Barisic, Ryan Jack and Kemar Roofe) already jettisoned upon the expiry of their contracts, and if Clement feels that Hagi should follow suit, Mourinho’s Fenerbahce might be ready to pounce.

In other Rangers news, Barry Ferguson has been left delighted by a recent contract development at Ibrox.
