Marseille are in advanced talks to sign Arsenal striker Eddie Nketiah before the window closes, sources have told Football Insider.
Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, senior correspondent Pete O’Rourke revealed the French outfit remains interested in a deal despite their last offer being rejected.
Marseille had bid £17million for the 25-year-old, but the Gunners rejected that as they’re looking for £25-30million.
Nketiah will now leave Emirates Stadium on the cheap, but talks will continue as Marseille hopes to reach a compromise.
The academy graduate would provide pure profit in terms of PSR, but he’s under contract until 2027 which puts Arsenal in a strong position.
Marseille will have to pay a high price for Eddie Nketiah
Considering Arsenal sold Emile Smith Rowe to Fulham for £27million plus £7million in add-ons, there is belief that they can earn similar amounts for Nketiah.
The striker has more first-team football than Smith Rowe, which is another reason why the Gunners are confident they can secure more money.
Nketiah has played 168 games throughout his Arsenal career, scoring 38 goals and providing seven assists.
The Gunners are in the market for a striker this summer, which could lead to even fewer opportunities for Nketiah.
The striker featured in 27 Premier League games last season, but the majority of them came off the bench.
In other news, Gabriel Jesus transfer stance revealed.
