Darren Bent shares damning one-word Rangers verdict after defeat to Aberdeen

Darren Bent has shared his brutal one-word verdict on Rangers after a gut-wrenching 2-1 loss to Aberdeen on Wednesday (30 October).

Philippe Clement is on his last life at Ibrox as potential replacements are already being touted after the Gers saw their Scottish Premiership prospects effectively evaporate at Pittodrie.

Bent discussed the current state of affairs in Glasgow with co-host Andy Goldstein live on talkSPORT [31 October, 4:51pm], with the former Premier League striker summing up the bleak atmosphere at Ibrox in one word when simply saying the club are in “turmoil”.

“Turmoil” is a kind word to describe Rangers

Turmoil? Rangers are in the pits of despair after the loss against Aberdeen, with a nine-point gap now separating the Light Blues from the SPFL summit. It is all but over for the side in the league and it’s only November 1.

Jimmy Thelin and Aberdeen should act as an example for the Gers as they look to pick up the pieces from yet another setback this term. The resurgence of last year’s ninth-placed side is nothing short of remarkable.

Rangers supporters did not endure liquidation in 2012 and a rise back to the top flight of Scotland to find the side with no clear leadership and similar financial troubles rearing its ugly head once again.

The club operated at a £17m loss throughout the last financial year. Even an influx of new investment would do little to help the side on the European stage, as per UEFA’s strict Financial Fair Play policy.

A catastrophic catalogue of errors has led the Gers to this point, and with Clement at the helm, how much longer can the charade continue?

It is clear Rangers need to hit the reset button, albeit that is impossible during an ongoing season. Still, recruiting at board level and finally steering the club in a sense of direction would be a good place to start.

For Clement, he must find a way to revitalise the doom and gloom atmosphere at Ibrox, for whatever time he has left at the helm.

In other Rangers news, Ally McCoist has been mooted for an emergency Gers return to replace Philippe Clement.
