Dan Bardell: Tottenham 24y/o is Ange 'Fall Guy' even though he has future in North London

Dan Bardell has urged Djed Spence not to worry after being left out of the Tottenham squad for the opening phase of the Europa League.

The 24-year-old has been left out alongside fellow full-back Sergio Reguillon [The Independent] as Spurs prepare for the inaugural League phase in the European competition.

The former Nottingham Forest star has been reintegrated into the side by Ange Postecoglou after multiple failed loan spells but hasn’t made the cut.

Sky Sports and talkSPORT journalist Bardell has urged Spence and supporters not to worry about this omission with minutes available in the league and cup.

Speaking exclusively to Tottenham News, Bardell said: “It’s just the circumstances for Tottenham at the moment.

“We’ve seen Premier League sides struggle with the registration rules in the past. It doesn’t mean that he doesn’t have a future at Tottenham.

“Someone just had to be left out of the European squad and Spence is the fall guy. He’s been given minutes so I wouldn’t be overly worried for him.“

The Englishman had an excellent pre-season which saw him rebuild his career in North London after an ill-fated move from QPR.

This meant he avoided yet another loan spell away or even a permanent departure which could have proved to be a mistake.

Postecoglou has worked well with Spence to get him back to his best at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium which has seen him appear in two Premier League matches already [FotMob].

It will be disappointing for him to miss out on the Europa League squad but will hand him more time to focus on his game and work towards more involvement in the coming months.
