'Starting to lose the players' - BBC pundit issues damning verdict on Clement at Rangers

Derek Ferguson believes that Philippe Clement has already started to lose the support of the Rangers players.

Gers suffered a 2-1 defeat against Aberdeen on 30 October and are now nine points behind the Dons on the SPFL table.

The Belgian is feeling the pressure in the aftermath of the defeat but has not yet been sacked by the Gers hierarchy.

He told BBC Sportsound, as quoted on the website on 31 October at 12:46 pm: “He’s starting to lose the players. He’s losing me.

“When he first came in, I was impressed by the way he turned things round but he seems to be seeing a different game from the one I’m seeing.

“I speak to guys who are still involved and they tend to agree with me. He’s under pressure because of the level of performance.

“There would be a bit of hope if there was a better level of performance but I’ve not been seeing it.

“Against a struggling Hibs side, they were fortunate to win. Against St Mirren, they didn’t deserve all three points.

“He needed to win against Aberdeen by hook or by crook and he didn’t. All the flak that’s coming, he’s got to take it on the chin because he’s under severe pressure. The club from top to bottom is an absolute shambles.”

Clement’s position at Ibrox appears increasingly tenuous, not just due to the lack of victories, but more critically, due to what seems like waning support from the players.

Everything suggests a disconnect between the Belgian’s tactics or vision and what’s being executed on the pitch.

This disconnect manifests in games where Rangers, despite their potential, struggle to convincingly outplay teams they should dominate, pointing towards deeper systemic issues beyond mere tactics.

If players are not fully behind their manager’s strategy, it’s reflected in lacklustre performances and an inability to close out games decisively.

For the board, delaying action might exacerbate the situation and it may not be wise to give him more time.

If player morale and performance continue to decline, the team’s season could spiral further, making a prompt decision on Clement’s future critical as there’s still plenty to fight for this season.
