Arsenal fans are all saying the same thing about Myles Lewis-Skelly after 3-0 Champions League win over Monaco
????????????
Myles Lewis-Skelly was handed a first UEFA Champions League start by Mikel Arteta against Monaco on Wednesday.
As a result, the Arsenal No.49 became the youngest player at 18 years and 76 days to start in the competition since Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain did so in a 2-1 win over Olympiakos back in September 2011.
The Hale End graduate did not look out of place whatsoever against the side sat third in Ligue 1, showing great strength, vision and composure to slot Gabriel Jesus in to assist Bukayo Saka for the opener.
As Myles Lewis-Skelly shone in the 3-0 win over Monaco, Arsenal fans were all in agreement about the teenager on X (previously known as Twitter).
Arsenal fans all blown away by Myles Lewis-Skelly’s performance against Monaco
One Arsenal fan wrote: “Myles Lewis-Skelly has given Arteta an almighty problem/solution. Biggest take away is him ordering others where to position themselves. Baby Timber aka the nonchalant gene. Not once does he panic. Plays like he has earned the right to be here. Special talent. Hale End.”
It was certainly interesting to see the youngster telling his older teammates what to do at times – not only is he technically superb on the ball, but he clearly has the mentality needed to succeed at this level.
Another Arsenal fan posted: “BRO! Myles Lewis-Skelly has such bravery man. Such confidence to play that pass, we don’t pass like that anymore.”
Not only was the pass to Jesus a fantastic one, but the Islington-born wonderkid also had to muscle off Eliesse Ben Seghir, who was applying a lot of pressure after chasing Martin Odegaard’s ball.
A third Arsenal fan wrote: “Very impressed with the calmness and composure, on and off the ball, displayed by Myles Lewis-Skelly. Looked very comfortable so far.”
You would not think it was his first UEFA Champions League start – to say the least.
Another fan wrote: “Myles Lewis-Skelly is properly unfazed being a starter in a CL game. Cool as a cucumber.”
A fifth Arsenal supporter even made the bold claim that Lewis-Skelly has outdone Oleksandr Zinchenko, saying: “Myles-Lewis Skelly is already better than Zinchenko.”
Last but not least, a sixth fan also praised Lewis-Skelly’s maturity, stating: “Myles Lewis-Skelly is actually teaching some of the senior (players) how it is done in the midfield! Unreal talent.”
How Myles Lewis-Skelly performed statistically in 3-0 win over Monaco
Lewis-Skelly, who Arteta called “solid” recently, may well have earned himself a start for Saturday’s Premier League clash against Everton with his display against Monaco, as he was absolutely superb.
SofaScore shows that the Londoner won four of his five attempted ground duels, while also completing 45 of his attempted 47 passes at a success rate of 96% – fantastic numbers.
Furthermore, Lewis-Skelly, who has already made Premier League history, also had 53 touches of the ball on a night where he certainly didn’t shy away from the action, while completing both of his attempted dribbles too.
