Report: 'Exceptional' La Liga star is going to sign for Tottenham in January
????
Tottenham Hotspur are expected to be active in the January transfer window.
Spurs need all the help they can get. The North Londoners have won just once in their last seven games in all competitions, and things are not looking great.
Tottenham are currently 11th in the Premier League table and ninth in the Europa League standings. Their squad looks really thin now because of injuries, and Ange Postecoglou has to strengthen his side in the winter window.
Now, a report has claimed that Tottenham have wrapped up a deal to sign a player from La Liga.
Tottenham are going to sign Omar Alderete in January
Tottenham have had a lot of problems in defence this season.
Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven have had injury troubles, while Ben Davies suffered a hamstring problem as well not too long ago.
That has forced Spurs to rush defenders back from injury and use players like Archie Gray out of position, which hasn’t been ideal at all.
Tottenham need a new defender in the January transfer window, and Antena2 have boldly claimed that Omar Alderete of Getafe is joining Spurs.
The report claims that the 27-year-old will be the second Paraguayan to move to the Premier League in January – Diego Gomez is the other one and he is joining Brighton and Hove Albion.
Alderete, a 22-cap Paraguay international, is into his second season at Getafe and is one of their most important players.
But, if the report is to be believed, he will be leaving the Spanish club after just 18 months to join Tottenham.
Who is Tottenham-linked Omar Alderete?
Alderete is a 27-year-old Paraguayan who mostly plays as a centre-half.
The defender started his career at Cerro Porteno in his home country before having spells in Argentina, Switzerland, Germany and Spain.
Dung describes Alderete as a player with a ‘strong defensive presence and exceptional skill’. He is incredibly versatile and can play as a centre-half, left-back and also in midfield if required.
If Tottenham do sign Alderete, he will be able to provide cover for both Van de Ven and Destiny Udogie, who are both under a lot of pressure to play every game right now.
It remains to be seen how much he will cost Spurs if they sign him in January.
