Arsenal are continuing to monitor Sporting CP striker Viktor Gyokeres, sources have told Football Insider.
Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, senior correspondent Pete O’Rourke revealed the Sweden international joining the Gunners “could happen.”
However, a deal is unlikely to be struck in January because it is notoriously difficult to do business in that transfer window.
The Gunners would love to sign someone like Gyokeres, but it ultimately comes down to finances, and it would take a huge fee to sign him in January.
There is no current urgency from Arsenal either, as Kai Havertz has stepped into that role and performed.
But a deal for the 26-year-old striker could happen next summer if Arsenal remains in the market for a striker.
Arsenal would have to pay a high fee for Viktor Gyokeres
Gyokeres has had an impressive start to the season, scoring seven goals and providing three assists in five matches.
During the recent international break he scored three goals for Sweden to add to his tally.
His impressive form is capturing plenty of attention, but with an £84million release clause it will not be easy for another club to sign him.
Arsenal were hamstrung by FFP during the summer transfer window which is why the club ended up needing to offload players at the back end of the window.
In other news, Arsenal bag extra £9m+ on top of £55m after deals agreed.
