Arsenal staff think they have a really ‘confident’ youngster who could make debut vs Bolton
He is quite the prospect ✨
Arsenal begin their League Cup campaign tonight against League One side and former Premier League rivals Bolton Wanderers.
Having come away from Manchester City on Sunday with a 2-2 draw after an exhausting performance, major changes are expected tonight from Mikel Arteta with Ethan Nwaneri and Myles Lewis-Skelly both in line to make their first professional starts for Arsenal.
With David Raya also set to be rested and Neto cup-tied, the Gunners will have to turn to their academy to decide who will start between the sticks at a sold-out Emirates Stadium later this evening, with Arsenal likely to choose 16-year-old Jack Porter.
And Arsenal staff are seemingly excited about the England youth international’s future.
Arsenal staff huge fans of ‘confident’ Hale End talent Jack Porter
According to the Evening Standard, the 16-year-old Arsenal U-21 talent already has a good reputation at Arsenal amongst staff members, with Porter regarded as a ‘really confident’ player who is liked due to his ability on the ball.
With Porter in line for a shock debut between the sticks for Arsenal tonight against Bolton, the teenager is set for the biggest moment in his life with a debut for the north London side at the Emirates Stadium on the horizon.
Yet with Arsenal lacking a real third-choice goalkeeper this season, Porter making his debut and impressing in goal for the Gunners could be all that’s needed for the youngster to become that option for Arteta.
Indeed, the teenager is clearly rated highly at Arsenal with the Gunners open to giving the England youth international his first ever professional start tonight in the League Cup, and Porter will be eager to give a good account of himself against good opposition in Bolton.
Arsenal need to do all they can to make Porter comfortable
It’s been some time since Arsenal have given minutes to a player as young as Porter, with the last example coming two years ago when Nwaneri became the youngest Premier League player of all-time at 15-years-old.
Which is why if Porter is named as the starting goalkeeper for Arsenal tonight against Bolton, the senior Gunners players need to do all they can to make Porter as comfortable as possible at the Emirates Stadium in what will be a huge night.
Indeed, Arteta starting Porter would be a fantastic story for the youngster and a huge boost for Arsenal fans on their future prospects, and the 16-year-old could be keen to get going tonight if selected by the Basque coach.
