Arsenal fans have told the club to cancel the loan deal of Raheem Sterling in January following his performance against West Ham.
Sterling joined the Gunners on a season-long loan from Chelsea in the final hours of the summer transfer window with his new side paying less than half of his wages.
That came after the winger had fallen out of contention at Stamford Bridge, though he has also struggled for opportunities with Mikel Arteta’s side.
His only goal for the club to date came in a League Cup win against League One side Bolton Wanderers, and he has made just six Premier League appearances for Arsenal, with only two as a starter (Soccerway).
That has already seen the move to sign him come in for criticism from Gunners supporters, and his showing against the Hammers appears to have done little to change that.
Arsenal yet to see the best of Raheem Sterling under Mikel Arteta
Arteta’s men continued their recent resurgence with a 5-2 victory over West Ham on Saturday (30th November), with all the goals coming in a remarkable first-half.
That will have further eased any lingering pressure there might have been on the Spaniard after the Gunners’ previous dip in form.
The same cannot be said for Sterling, who was brought on as a 74th minute substitute for Arsenal to replace star man Bukayo Saka.
While he was not on the pitch for long, the 29-year-old still endured another inconsistent outing, firing one decent chance into the side netting soon after his introduction and prompting supporters to brand his signing the “most pointless” move and call for him to be sent back to Chelsea.
He did go close with free-kick late on but it wasn’t enough to move the dial for much of the fanbase who feel he may not even want to play for the Gunners.
In other news, Arsenal’s attempts to increase the capacity of the Emirates Stadium could be blocked.
