'As far as I know...' - Alan Myers responds as Everton takeover delays mooted

The Friedkin Group’s expected takeover at Everton is not believed to have run into any delays, says Alan Myers.

The Sky Sports journalist responded to a fan via X on 7 November to dismiss suggestions that the process has been held up.

Dan Friedkin’s agreement with Farhad Moshiri was announced by both sides on 23 September, and the move still requires regulatory approval in the UK, as well as the green light from a judge in the US presiding over a legal dispute involving 777 Partners and A-Cap.

Myers wrote: “There are no delays as far as I know”.

Farhad Moshiri on track to sell Everton to The Friedkin Group

There has been no indication of any issue with this deal going through in the time since it suddenly emerged, following Friedkin rapidly emerging back onto the scene ahead of John Textor.

It appears in this case no news is good news, in contrast to 777’s doomed attempted takeover last season, and indeed Friedkin’s previous involvement in the summer.

But until everything is confirmed it will understandably leave Evertonians on edge, having gone through too many disappointments on this front already.

Dan Friedkin’s Everton takeover it thought to remain on track.

Myers indicated recently (25 October) that he expected an early December completion date, which itself was a slight delay on the late November timeframe he had previously predicted.

But given the complicated nature of the debt picture at Goodison Park, and particularly the need to assuage any doubts in the legal dispute between Leadenhall and A-Cap, it is perhaps no surprise it takes time.

There is confidence that Premier League approval will ultimately be a formality [Ben Jacobs, 23 September], just as there is also no indication that the Leadenhall situation is an unsurmountable hurdle this time around [The Athletic, 25 October].

All being well Everton should be within a few weeks of entering the new era they have been waiting for, but that was the case in the summer until it suddenly wasn’t.

So while there doesn’t look to be any reason for alarm it is a situation which will keep supporters on edge until the confirmed developments they want to see do arrive.
