Aston Villa now offered chance to sign 'imposing' £35m striker after Felix agrees to join Chelsea - journalist

Despite Aston Villa’s attempts to sign Atletico Madrid superstar Joao Felix this summer, it now appears as if the striker has his heart set on a move to Chelsea.

Spanish sources reported that Villa were preparing one final assault for Felix over the weekend, hoping that Julian Alvarez’s move to Spain would push Atleti to sell.

However, Chelsea have reportedly now made a strong move to sign Felix, who previously played 20 games for the club during a loan spell in the 2022/23 season.

Chelsea turned to Felix after their negotiations to sign 20-year-old Samu Omorodion collapsed, a young striker who impressed whilst on loan to Alaves last season.

As part of Diego Simeone’s reshuffle, Omorodion is reportedly free to leave Atleti this summer, and it looked like he would be on his way to Stamford Bridge.

But in the latest twist of the saga, journalist Ben Jacobs is now reporting that an opportunity to sign Omorodion has now been presented to Villa, who may still benefit from Felix making a move.

Aston Villa have now been offered Samu Omorodion after Joao Felix impasse

Jacobs shared his update on X this morning after news of Felix potentially joining Chelsea had surfaced.

The journalist said the £35m-rated Omorodion is currently being offered to several clubs including Villa and Bournemouth, who have just lost Dominic Solanke.

Jacobs said that Villa haven’t initiated any contact with Atleti right now, which is understandable given the recency of their pursuit of Felix seemingly coming to an end.

He shared: “Samu Omorodion is currently being offered to several clubs, including Bournemouth, Aston Villa and Leverkusen.

“Bournemouth and Villa haven’t initiated the contact and aren’t currently working on a deal. Leverkusen held an interest prior to Chelsea agreeing a fee with Atletico.”

In truth, an ‘imposing’ presence like Omorodion could be well suited to Emery’s project this summer.

However, a move would surely depend on Jhon Duran leaving Aston Villa.

Villa already have a talented young striker on the bench not playing minutes because of Ollie Watkins’ excellent form.

And unless Villa find a solution for Duran’s future, it seems unlikely that any out-and-out centre-forward will arrive before the end of August.
