Vaclav Cerny has been named as the only Rangers player in Jonathan Sutherland’s Team of the Week for the BBC after their “decidedly average” 2-1 home win against St Mirren.
The Sportscene presenter’s Team of the Week was posted on the BBC Sport website (28 October) and showed Sutherland’s selection in full which included the Czechia international.
Cerny has found some form in a Gers shirt after an inconsistent start to life in Glasgow and was singled out by Sutherland for his role in the St Mirren victory.
“Rangers managed to bag all three points against St Mirren despite an impressive performance from Stephen Robinson’s side and Philippe Clement’s men have one player in my Team of the Week,” he wrote.
“Decidedly average again from Rangers, but not for the first time Vaclav Cerny was on hand to grab them another 3 points.”
Vaclav Cerny has come into his own for Rangers
There have been times this season when fans and pundits alike have questioned the Gers’ decision to bring Cerny to Ibrox on a season-long loan but, in recent weeks, the move seems to be paying off.
The attacker starred for Philippe Clement’s men in their 2-1 home win over St. Mirren on Sunday (27 October) with the 27-year-old setting up the second Rangers goal of the clash after firing an inch-perfect near-post cross towards Nedim Bajrami who hit the ball in the back of the net.
Throughout the summer window, Clement focused on bringing in a plethora of talented players to bolster his attacking ranks but Cerny’s addition was one that raised a few eyebrows.
However, these worries have since been squashed and the Czechia international is slowly emerging as one of the most important players at Ibrox.
The Gers will no doubt be hoping his recent form continues into their game against Aberdeen on Wednesday (30 October) so that they can halve the deficit between themselves and the Dons which would also allow them to ramp up the pressure on their bitter rivals, Celtic.
In other Rangers news, Chris Sutton has shared the result Celtic will be hoping for in the Gers’ clash against Aberdeen.
