'Beleaguered' - Chris Jack issues Philippe Clement sack verdict as Patrick Stewart joins Rangers

Chris Jack admits that the argument against Rangers sacking Philippe Clement has become weaker since the Dundee United result on Saturday.

Gers conceded first and needed to come from behind and could only get a point from the game at Ibrox on 23 November.

Patrick Stewart, who is the new CEO, will be making all the major decisions at Ibrox, including the future of the Belgian.

Jack wrote in the Rangers Review on 25 November: “Stewart will be answerable to and held accountable by the same board of directors that have overseen his appointment.

“It is those individuals who have been in the crosshairs of the support in recent weeks and chants that the club is ‘in the wrong hands’ were heard during the draw with Dundee United on Saturday as Philippe Clement’s position as manager became even more difficult to defend for those who still back the beleaguered Belgian.”

Stewart will likely approach the decision regarding Clement’s future with caution, aiming to assess the situation firsthand.

Given the Belgian’s recent struggles, including the inability to secure a win against Dundee United, the Scotsman might opt to give the manager a brief period to demonstrate improvement, considering the complexities of mid-season managerial changes.

However, with Rangers’ ambitions to challenge for the title, the margin for error is slim.

Celtic’s consistent performance is widening the gap and Gers cannot afford prolonged underperformance.

If there’s no immediate upturn in results or a clear path to recovery, Stewart will need to act decisively.

The pressure from fans and the board, coupled with the season’s objectives, means that any patience shown must be balanced against the urgent need for a turnaround to keep the title race alive.
