'Big' - Ex-CEO predicts Arne Slot could block signings lined up by Liverpool

Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness has insisted Arne Slot will have the power to block transfer deals he doesn’t “buy into” at Liverpool.

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the 66-year-old – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – insisted the new Reds boss will have had a “baptism of fire” at his new home with the data compiled by the club’s transfer team.

Liverpool and Slot are yet to wrap up a summer signing since the window opened earlier this month (14 June).

The Dutchman replaces Jurgen Klopp in the Anfield hot seat after the German’s trophy-laden nine-year spell at the club.

Slot, who started work at the beginning of June, has been officially appointed as a head coach – with transfer experts such as Michael Edwards and Richard Hughes expected to take the lead in the transfer market.

However, Wyness claimed Liverpool “won’t go ahead with a transfer” unless they receive encouragement from the ex-Feyenoord boss.

He told Football Insider‘s Insider Track podcast: “They’ll give Arne Slot the time to settle in and look at the assets, and I’m sure he’s been doing that.

“We know there has been some change at the top level, with the directors and so on.

“Slot will have had a baptism of fire in terms of the data. The transfer team will have spent countless hours putting that together.

“He’s now got to work with the powers that be above him, making sure this is the squad he wants.

“He won’t have the final say in the transfers, but he’ll be involved heavily. I’d say they wouldn’t go ahead with a transfer unless he’s bought into the deal.

“Slot’s got a big job ahead to fill Klopp’s shoes, so he’ll want to make sure he gets off with a cohesive squad. He’ll have the full support to do it – there’s no doubt.”
