Billionaire-owned English club want to sign Rangers star - report

Birmingham City want to sign Rangers star Connor Goldson in a move backed by their billionaire owner, according to The Sun.

Writing on their website (30 June), the news outlet report manager Chris Davies is eyeing a deal for the Ibrox star after taking over at St Andrews following their relegation to League One from the Championship.

The Blues are desperate to get promoted and billionaire owner Tom Wagner is set to hand his club a mega budget to get the job done, with Goldson emerging as a key target after losing his place in the side under Philippe Clement.

Rangers to sell Connor Goldson?

12 months ago it would have been unthinkable for Rangers to sell Goldson to a club not even in the top two divisions of English football, but it wouldn’t be that surprising today.

Goldson’s performances have taken a battering in recent months and even saw him get dropped from the team by the manager before a knee injury in training curtailed his season prematurely.

Clement and Rangers have been tight-lipped about his future amid reported interest from Saudi Arabia, but with millions of pounds potentially on offer for the veteran defender it would be a hard offer to ignore.

Goldson is now 31-years-old and has two years remaining on his contract at Ibrox, so this could potentially be the perfect time to move him on for a good fee.

But it won’t be easy to replace him and that should be considered first. There is now a path emerging for Goldson’s Glasgow exit, and it will be interesting to see how this develops in the coming weeks.
