Wenham View: PL midfielder wants Tottenham move as player-plus-cash transfer on cards

John Wenham believes Carlos Alcaraz would welcome a move to Tottenham.

The owner of the reputable Spurs podcast Lilywhite Rose would be keen to see the 21-year-old join the club.

As reported by Alan Nixon via his Patreon (23 June), Southampton and Spurs are trying to agree a swap deal involving Joe Rodon and Alcaraz, which could see the North London side required to pay an extra fee.

And Wenham – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – is hopeful that a deal can be agreed.

“When Southampton were last in the Premier League, I remember thinking what an exciting player Alcaraz was,” Wenham said.

“He can play in multiple positions across the midfield, and at the age of 21, I therefore think he is worth taking a gamble on.

“I don’t think Southampton are actively trying to get rid of him, I think he’s made it clear he wants to move to a bigger club.

“As a result, he would surely welcome a move to Tottenham, and I would be very much up for Tottenham signing him.”

Alcaraz demonstrated signs of potential while playing in the Premier League.

Therefore, he could prove to be a useful squad option for Spurs.

He spent some time on loan with Juventus, and while it didn’t go as well as he might have hoped, he is still very young.

Rodon has no future at Tottenham, with the Welshman unlikely to get into the team over Micky van de Ven or Cristian Romero.

As a result, signing a player with potential as part of an exchange for Rodon could prove to be a shrewd bit of business.
