Man United consider CAS appeal to sign alternative to Everton ace - report

Manchester United are exploring their legal options to sign Jean-Clair Todibo as an alternative to Everton ace Jarrad Branthwaite, according to HITC.

The outlet reported on its website on Thursday (27 June) that although the Red Devils have agreed personal terms with the England international, they may look to alternatives because of the Toffees’ valuation of £75million.

Ineos’ multi-club ownership model had threatened to halt a move for the Frenchman, with UEFA rules meaning that a player cannot be transferred between clubs under the same ownership.

But sources have suggested that one of the options being considered by United at this moment in time is a potential appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport in an attempt to get the deal over the line.

Will Everton sell Jarrad Branthwaite to Manchester United in summer transfer window?

After so much speculation around Branthwaite’s future at Goodison Park a few weeks ago, all seems to have gone a bit quiet around this transfer and it seems as though talks are on hold for now at least.

United clearly aren’t willing to match the Toffees’ asking price and that was made clear by their first offer which will have been laughed out of Merseyside and unless that changes alternatives will have to be identified.

Whether or not it is easier to fight an entire legal case to try and bring Todibo to Old Trafford, instead of just footing the bill for Branthwaite is open to interpretation, but United never seem to do things the easy way.

For Everton and Sean Dyche that is a boost as it means that it is likely they will be able to keep their star man on Merseyside this summer. If Branthwaite and James Tarkowski are both retained, Dyche’s defence will be in good nick ahead of next season.

However, a lot can change between now and the end of the summer transfer window. It wouldn’t be a total shock to see another bid made before the campaign gets underway.

In other Everton news, the Toffees have been told to pursue a cut-price deal for Harry Maguire during the summer transfer window
