Everton ace rejects new contract, permanent exit on cards - report

Ben Godfrey has rejected a new contract at Everton and looks set to leave this summer in a £15million deal, according to HITC.

Writing on their website (26 June), the news outlet report that the versatile defender has been subject to £10million bids from European clubs Lyon and Atalanta, and is open to the move.

However the Toffees value the 26-year-old at more than that, and will hold out for £15million to allow him to leave as he enters the final year of his contract at Goodison Park.

Everton set to lose Ben Godfrey at Goodison Park

In a 2023/24 season that was full of injury problems and issues off the field, Godfrey really stepped up for the team and did a job at right-back when he was required.

It played a huge part in the team avoiding relegation from the Premier League, and it’s no surprise that the club were looking to keep him at Goodison Park by handing him a new contract.

But that now seems highly unlikely with European teams chasing his signature and being able to offer him continental football, so the club must prepare for his exit.

Several defenders have been linked with a move to the club with young central defender Ronnie Edwards [TBR, 25 June], Manchester United star Victor Lindelof [talkSPORT, 25 June] and Manchester City youngster Issa Kabore all mentioned [AfricaFoot, 20 June].

If Godfrey is to move on then ideally the club would be able to reinvest the cash into the squad and bring in someone who can improve the team and Sean Dyche’s options, so this is one to watch.

In other Everton news, Newcastle’s move for Dominic Calvert-Lewin is not dead.
